The course discusses the fundamentals, concepts and applications of conservation biology including conservation movement and changes from historical and ethical aspects. Threats and challenges in conservation, interaction between society and wildlife, and its impacts also will be explained. At the end of this course, students will apply knowledge and skills of conservation biology to solving current problems.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>BDY3143<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Management of Forest and Forest Resources<\/strong><\/p><p>Malaysian forest is a renewable resource that provisions the society with various functions and benefits among others by providing forest products, habitat for wildlife, recreational activities and water resource. In order to ensure sustainability of the forest and its resources, forests should be wisely managed. Through this course students will be introduced to the forest and forest resources management practice in Malaysia, including the silviculture system and policies related to the forest and forest resources. This course will also be a platform for students to analyse the pattern of forest resource use, forest ecological functions and current issues in forestry and forest management. Ethical issues in forest and forest management as well as the opportunity to manage forest to support green economy will be given an emphasis.<\/p><p><strong>BDY4003<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Biodiversity Data Analyses<\/strong><\/p><p>This course discusses the method of analysing scientific data related to biodiversity. Topics of this course include the introduction of basic statistical concepts, data collection, data analysis using appropriate computer software, processing and presenting data. Computer software for data analysis and practical training to perform each type of data analysis will be explained to students. In addition, students also will be provided experience to explore the data collected or observed in the environment as well as various statistical techniques that suit specific needs.<\/p><p><strong>Elective Courses (Open to takers from other faculties or institutions)<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>BDY3153<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Ex Situ Animal Conservation<\/strong><\/p><p>This course discusses animal population management in captivity that includes guidelines and care of animal populations in captivity, control of animal populations in captivity, establishment and management of rehabilitation centres and sanctuaries, knowledge and ethics of animals in captivity, and the excess animal management methods using examples of major animal groups in Malaysia (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and selected invertebrates). The concept of environment, landscape and exhibition facilities that follow the specifications and recommendations of the authorities will also be discussed.<\/p><p><strong>BDY4093<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Land Use Planning<\/strong><\/p><p>This course exposes students to the principles and techniques related to land use planning that is commonly used in Malaysia, provides an understanding on the management structure and the responsibilities of specific agencies in managing land and land-related resources as well as the relevant policies.
