The rational of learning this subject is to ensure the safety of human health and the environment when dealing with chemicals. In this course, students will be taught on chemical storage, labelling & handling, classification of chemicals, fire chemistry, emergency action plan and introduction to occupational safety and health in organizations. This course will enable students to gain knowledge in the basic principles of chemical management and safety. Students will also be able to identify and classify hazardous chemicals. This helps students apply knowledge of chemical management in subsequent practical courses.

AEC3022 Basic Chemometric

This course discusses the principle of statistical chemistry for analytical and environmental data. The course is divided into lectures and practicals in order to expose the student to the collected data interpretation either from the laboratory or from the fieldwork. Students will be exposed to manual and computational (Microsoft Excel) calculations in their learning process. Basic techniques such as type of data, descriptive analysis, hypothesis testing (T-Test, Z-Test, F-Test), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Correlation and Regression analysis will also be taught.

AEC3703 Environmental Chemistry

The topics in this course cover the basic ideas of the composition and structure of the earth. Discussions will be conducted on the principal of chemical processes, and the scientific procedures to prevent and/or reduce the pollution in the hydrosphere and lithosphere. This course also introduces the main nutrient cycles in the enviromentals chemical processes and their significance on the lives and environmental survival.

AEC3723 Advanced Environmental Chemistry

In this course, students will learn about the chemical processes and pollution in the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect and global warming, toxic compounds, and waste management. It will assist students in comprehending how naturally occurring and man-made chemicals affect the environment and human health, as well as environmental management and contamination reduction. All students enrolled in this course are expected to demonstrate mastery of all topics through successful completion of quizzes, group assignments and exams.

AEC3733 Introduction to Environmental Analysis

The course aims to give students the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to conduct environmental field sampling and the analysis of pollutants in different environmental matrices. It emphasizes the selection of analytical analysis that relates the quantification of environment pollutants, the comparison of environmental sampling and strategies, good laboratory practices and its associated quality control and assurance.

AEC4453 Forensic Chemistry

This course will cover the physical and biological samples of forensic investigation. The role of forensic chemists will be highlighted. Several previous crime cases will be studied and presented. The documentation on the sampling/collection, preservation and transportation of the evidence in accordance with the established guidelines and procedures will be discussed. The application of analytical techniques on various forensic samples will also be discussed. Upon completion of the study, students are able to explain and determine appropriate analytical methodologies to process the evidence in the forensic investigations.

AEC4743 Environmental Chemistry: Special Topics

This course discusses the details on major current environmental issues related to latest environmental pollution status in Malaysia. Also, this course offers the type of pollution, fate and transport, mitigative and preventive measures, effect and the legal requirement as the pollution stipulated limit. Students will be integrating the theoretical knowledge into a real case study; thus, it enhances the students experiences regarding the likelihood and severity orientation on the pollution status. The topics will be divided into five main types of pollution called as water, air, oil, pesticides and plastic debris. The students are required to present their finding from the real case study. At the end of this course, students are able to overview the integration between theoretical and real scenario pollution occurrence in industry perspective.

AEC4793 Environmental Impact Assessment: Process and Procedure

Environmental impact assessment (EIA) is one of regulated development planning method as to assist the decision makers (governments) in the mitigation and controlling environmental pollution from development activities. Guidelines, policies, regulations and acts are disclosed to provide critical information to assist in whether a project will be approved or not for future benefit. Students will be equipped with the skills to understand, critically evaluate the impact of the development on the environment and stakeholders. The process of EIA is integrating Term of Reference (TOR) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) is prepare, plan and mitigate from the impact from the environmental and socio-economic.
