Bubur Asyura brings UMT community together

22/08/2023

Several associations and clubs at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) have collectively prepared Bubur Asyura in remembrance of the Asyura day that falls on 10 Muharram. The day also known as Sugha is connected with Prophet Moses and Prophet Noah.

Wan Mohd Wazir Wan Abdul Wahab, Malaysia Association of Public University Administrators (MASTI) President cum UMT Association of Administrators and Professionals (PERENTAS – UMT) President, said the program Let’s Cook Asyura became a platform for fostering closer relationships among the staff.

“Preparing Bubur Asyura together is an old tradition to instill the spirit of cooperation, which has become lost among UMT community due to the presence of technology that has caused people to prefer being in seclusion.

“Miniature Malaysian flags were attached to Bubur Asyura containers that were distributed to UMT staff and students  to invoke the feeling of patriotism as August is a national month.

He said the initiative to hold such programme needs to be continued not just at university level but at a wider scope so that more people will have the opportunity to be involved and become closer with one another.

About 1000 containers of Bubur Asyura prepared using five big woks were successfully distributed during the programme.

Other participating partners were Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre, UMT Women’s Club, and Elderly Activity Centre.
